Day 2: Luang Prabang ( B/-/- )

Following breakfast, we depart the hotel and visit the National Museum, which formerly was the former Royal Palace. The Museum houses a collection of valuables, including the famous Prabang Buddha statue, as well as gifts received from foreign dignitaries. Next stop is a visit to Wat Xiengthong, the 16th century temple which, more than any other temple in Luang Prabang, epitomizes the elegance and grace of Luang Prabang architecture.

Next we embark on a boat for a trip up the Mekong River. Along the way we observe the local way of life passing by. Of particular interest will be the local Hill Tribes.

Our first stop is the Pac Ou cave cut into the side of a limestone cliff and located at the convergence of the Mekong and Ou rivers. The sanctuaries at Pac Ou are comprised of two large caves, both repositories for thousands of Buddha images and statues, ranging in height from mere centimeters to two meters.

We will enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant in Ban Pac Ou village and then return to our hotel in Luang Prabang.

Day 3: Luang Prabang – Departure (B/-/- )

This morning you may want get up early and participate in a daily morning ritual. Monks carrying their bowls, wander through town blessing local people who give them offerings (mostly sticky rice). This daily ritual is repeated everywhere in South East Asia. The monks depend on the offerings for their daily food.

After breakfast we will travel to the beautiful Kuang Si waterfalls where turquoise waters cascade over limestone formations. The abundance of water forms a magnificent display of nature. Below the Kuang Si Falls are large pools perfect for swimming and cooling off under the spray of the falls. Driving to the waterfalls we pass through stunning landscapes and teak forests, as well as several ethnic minority villages (Hmong and Khmu). Near the waterfalls we stop to visit a center where the endangered black Asiatic bears are kept for breeding.

We return to Luang Prabang and transfer to the airport for the flight (excluded) to your next destination.
