Bridge over the River Kwai Day Tour BK-005

Between 06.10 – 06.20 our guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel to start your day to Kanchanaburi.

The bridge over the River Kwai was part of the famous Birma death railway. During the 2nd. world war, Japan wanted to build a railway linking Bangkok to India to be able to mover their forces further west. Kanchanaburi, which lies 130 kilometers west from Bangkok, was to become the most famous part of this construction project. The cost of building this railway has taken the lives of approximately 17.000 prisoners of war from Australia, Canada, England and the Netherlands and approximately 100.000 Asia workers under deplorable conditions.

During this day tour we will visit the famous Bridge, a museum that was reconstructed as one of the prisoners of war camp and one of the cemeteries. With a local train we will take a trip on the original railway to Ban Nam Tok passing over the famous railway built next to the mountain on a wooden trestle bridge. A visit to Krasae Cave that was used to store the munitions during the 2nd. World war and is now converted to a temple. Lunch is included and for 200 Baht per person (you can arrange this with your guide) you can take a speed boat trip on the river kwai. Back to Bangkok where the transfer back to your hotel is inclusive.

Cost: 1.850 Baht per person.
