The Union of Myanmar, known earlier as Birma, is an incredible and beautiful country with a friendly population who go out of their way to make you feel at home in their country. Entering Myanmar one gets the feel that they are stepping back about 40 years in time.

On this tour you will visit all of the highlights that this fascinating country has to offer. We will visit Yangon, Mawlamyine, Kyaikhiyo, Bagan, Monya, Mandalay and Inle Lake.

Day 01: Arrival Yangon and transfer

Meet upon arrival at Yangon International airport and transfer to the hotel. The rest of day is to spend at your leisure.

Day 02: Yangon-Mawlamyine

Breakfast at the hotel

In the morning we will be driving to Mawlamyine in the Mon state.

Lunch time break at Tathon and we will take an old road to Mawlamyine. On the way visit the which is a shallow limestone cave where you can see many small intricate Buddha images carved in the walls of the cave. (In rainy season this may not be accessible due to muddy road condition). And then drive to Mawlamyine and check in at the hotel.

Day 03: Mawlamyine- Belu Island – Mawlamyine

Breakfast at the hotel.

In the morning our driver will pick you up in the lobby of the hotel for the transfer to jetty to take a local ferry boat to Belu Island. On the Island we can visit some villages and study their ways of live. There, we can see some local home industries such Rubber Making, Slate Making, Walking Stick and Pipe making for smoking tobacco.

Afternoon transfer back to Mawlamyine and enjoy sightseeing highlights includes Pa Auk Taw Ya Monastery, one of the largest meditation centers of Myanmar; Seindon Minbaya Kyaung, 100 year old monastery and enjoy sunset from Kyaikthanlan Pagoda.

Day 04: Mawlamyine – – Kyaikhtiyo (car)

After early breakfast we proceed south to the village of Thanbyuzayat which is located 65 kilometres from Moulmein the fourth largest city in Myanmar. Here lies one of the war cemeteries from the period of the Japanese occupation and the building of the Birmese Death Railwy and lies at the foot of the hills on the border the Union of Myanmar from Thailand. In this particular cemetery are 3,149 Commenwealth and 621 Dutch buried.

After sightseeing in Thanbyuzayat, proceed to the Kin Pun ‘base camp’ and continue 11 Km leads from the base camp to Yathetaung with a steep road by open truck through spectacular local scenery. From there we start for a walk about 45 minutes to Kyaikhtiyo pagoda. This famous and one of the most important shrines in Myanmar and a pilgrimage (also known as the Golden Rock). According to legend, this rock is precariously perched on a strand of hair from Bhudha. The rock seems to defy gravity as it perpertually appears to be on the verge of rolling down the hill.

On arrival you can enjoy the beautiful sunset.

Day 05: Kyaikhtiyo- Bago -Yangon (car)

After enjoying sunrise from pagoda platform (depending on the hotel available), we travel down to Kin Pun base camp by open truck and back to Yangon via Bago. The sightseeing highlights are Shwemawdaw Pagoda (now as the Golden God Temple) and is the highest Pagoda in the country. Shwe Thalyaung Pagoda housing the largest reclining Bhuda built in 994 and Kyeik Pun Pagoda built in the 7th. Century and has 4 huge seated Bhudda’s sitting back to back. Ff time the time permits, we will stop at the Bago local market and enjoy rural way of local life.

Day 06: Yangon/ Bagan (Flight), Bagan Sightseeing

After breakfast our driver will pick you up in the lobby of the hotel for your Transfer to the airport to take a flight to Bagan. Bagan is one of Myanmars main attractions occupying an impressive 26 sq. miles, this site has some amazing and beautiful old temples, some of which are still being used today. The temples are all interconnected with a vast network of dirt roads and trails.

Our sightseeing tour of one of Asia’s most popular archeological destination highlights and Bagan’s distinctive pagodas such as Shwezigon, a prototype of later Myanmar stupas; Wetkyi-in- Gubyaukgyi, a 13th century ‘cave temple with interesting fine frescoes; Ananda Pagoda, one of the finest, largest and best persevered in Old Bagan; and next to it we visit Ananda Ok Kyaung, one of the few surviving brick monastery buildings from the Early Bagan period and Htilominlo Temple which is known to be the last Myanmar Style temple built in Bagan. As the sun goes down we will be at one of the ideal viewing sites selected by our tour guide for a panoramic sunset view over the temples.

Day 07: Bagan Half day Sightseeing

Breakfast at the hotel. Our sightseeing highlights includes Sulamani Temple built in by King Narapatisithu, Dhammayangyi Temple, a massive later period temple with the finest brickwork in Bagan and Thatbyinnyu Temple which towering above the other monuments of Bagan.

Free at leisure in the afternoon.

Day 08: Bagan-Pakkou (boat), Pakkou- Monywa (car)

After breakfast, transfer to jetty to take a boat trip to Pakkou, a bustling tobacco trading center. Then proceed to Mandalaly. On the way, visit to a local village, Amualae. Arriving at Monywa, sightseeing includes the very colorful Thanbuddhay Pagoda and Hlaungdawmu Buddha, the second largest reclining Buddha in Myanmar.

Day 09: Monywa- Powin taung sightseeing – Mandalay (car)

Enjoy breakfast at hotel. Take excursion across the Chin Dwin River to visit fascinating Hpo Win Daung and Shwe Ba Daung where are a system of impressive sandstone caves containing Buddha statues, wood carvings and fine mural paintings mainly in Innwa-style, some dating back to 15th century. Dozens of large and small caves with about 450,000 images are hidden in the area of the . Then continue to Mandalay. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel.

Day 10: Mingun – Mandalay sightseeing (boat /car)

We will go to Mandalay jetty where we take a short and pleasant ride upriver to Mingun, the site of what would have been the world’s largest pagoda had not King Bodawpaya who died in 1819 thus halting all further work. Later an earthquake in 1838 split the monument and reduced it to partial rubble. Nonetheless, the mammoth base of the unfinished pagoda is still a very impressive sight as we approach from the river. Nearby we can also visit the Mingun Bell, moved from the zedi after the earthquake and now hung in a new shrine building. It is said to be the largest hanging un-cracked bell in the world. Return to Mandalay.

Afternoon sightseeing tour of Mandalay includes the highly revered Mahamuni Pagoda; a gold leaf hammering craftshop, Shwenandaw Monastery, noted for its exquisite wood carvings; Kuthodaw Pagoda, renowned as the World’s largest book for its 729 stone slabs containing the entire Buddhist scriptures, and if time permits Mandalay Hill for a view over the city and Ayeyarwaddy River.

Day 11: Amarapura-Inwa sightseeing (car)

Travel to the ancient royal capital of Amarapura. Here we will visit Mahagandayon monastery, which is a school for young monks, and the nearby U Bein bridge. This longest teakwood bridge in the world is more than 2 centuries old and spans more than 1.2 kilometers.

Later we will visit another former royal capital, Inwa which was founded in 1364 and which lasted nearly 400 years as a royal capital. Highlights include the ‘ leaning tower of Ava’, Maha Aungmye Bonzan, a brick-and-stucco monastery, and the elegant teakwood monastery Bagaya Kyaung. Then back to Mandalay.

Day 12: Mandalay – Heho – Inle

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Mandalay airport where we will fly to Heho. After arrival at Heho airport we drive to magical Inle Lake. Situated 900 meters above sea level and 22 km long by 11 km wide, this large shallow lake is in an idyllic setting surrounded by mountains and is home to the Intha people, renowned for their floating gardens and the unique one-legged rowing style of their fishermen. We travel by small private boat on the lake, visiting the famous Paung Daw Oo pagoda, with its five famous Buddha images (four of which are carried in great ceremony around the lake during the Paung Daw Oo festival) and also nearby Inpawkhone Village where, in houses on stilts, we see traditional silk weaving with hand looms and the processing of lotus blossoms as they are made into beautiful fabric. After our lunch time break on the lake, visit traditional crafts-making such as blacksmithing, cheroot (local cigar) rolling, and boat making. Then enjoy a boat ride through the Kaylar village observing the many houses on stilts and the ways of life. We will see the floating gardens up close, then on to the ‘Ngaphae Chaung Monastery’ (known as the jumping cat monestary) which is an interesting old traditional monastery on the lake.

Day 13: Indein

Enjoy our Inle Lake sightseeing with a visit to Indain and its enchanting 17th century pagodas. To reach Indain and the nearby village we will take a boat ride up a small scenic creek that runs into Inle lake. After lunch and break we will visit the Silk and lotus weaving industry, cheroot making and Shan Traditional Paper making Family. If we are lucky we have a chance to see the Long neck Lady which we call padaung women. And then return back to hotel and leisure.

Day 14: Heho – Yangon sightseeing

Breakfast at the hotel and drive to heho airport and fly back to Yangon

After arrival, sightseeing start the beautiful Kandawgyi Lake, Botataung Pagoda, which is hollow and through which you can walk and see many ancient relics and artifacts and Yangon highlights include Yangon downtown area and from there we walk along the Pansodan street which has many large colonial buildings which are still in use. It is also interesting to see the sidewalk markets including those selling old books and magazines dated from the 1960’s up to the present.

And then go to the famous Scott Market, a sprawling complex built in 1926 and noted for its variety of handicrafts and other items which provides an excellent opportunity for a shopping spree. (Remark Scott market closes every Monday and Public holiday)

Finish your tour at the the awe-inspiring Shwedagon Pagoda which towers over all of Yangon. It is perhaps the most beautiful pagoda complex in all of Asia and is one sight that no visitor to Myanmar should miss. Enjoy sunset from the Pagoda.
